About us

The team behind Wayfinder

Wayfinder was created by an international group of resilience experts, from Stockholm Resilience Centre, Resilience Alliance and the Australian Resilience Centre, committed to translating resilience science into practical approaches for navigating towards a more sustainable, safe and just future. For the past 15 years, we have been working with resilience assessment approaches, in a variety of contexts around the world.

In 2016 we saw an opportunity to create a new type of resilience-based process for navigating towards sustainability in the Anthropocene, and started the development of Wayfinder as part of the GRAID programme at SRC. Over the following two years we developed the content on this platform in a collaborative process that involved small brainstorming workshops between core team members, a pilot project in Senegal, and larger practitioner workshops that we organized to draw out the latest insights from the resilience practice frontier. Wayfinder was launched on September 12^th, 2018.

Dr. Elin Enfors-Kautsky

Elin worked as a researcher at Stockholm Resilience Center, Stockholm University, from 2009 to 2019. She took the initiative to the Wayfinder project, and led its development throughout the whole creation and writing process. She is passionate about translating her knowledge of the sustainability science frontier into practical tools and approaches that can contribute to changing society for the better. After a successful launch of Wayfinder Elin now works full time as a resilience practitioner.

Allyson Quinlan
Senior Research Fellow, Resilience Alliance, Wayfinder core team

Allyson is a senior research fellow at the Resilience Alliance (RA), always on the lookout for novel methods in resilience practice. She is a core member of the Wayfinder writing team. Allyson has led resilience assessment projects in a range of systems around the world, and has contributed to a number of collaborative initiatives, such as developing the RA’s resilience assessment workbook for practitioners, developing education resources and field course instructions for resilience practice, and leading community engagement and future scenario processes.

Paul Ryan
Director of the Australian Resilience Centre, Wayfinder core team

Paul is passionate about working with people to create a future that is fair, just and sustainable. He is a core member of the Wayfinder writing team. Paul is a world-leading resilience practitioner, who has facilitated over 550 days of resilience-based planning, assessment and action. He is the founding Director of the Australian Resilience Centre, and in 2012 he also founded the Australian Resilience Community of Practice. He has previously worked for the Resilience Alliance, the CSIRO; Victorian state agencies and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority.

Linn Järnberg
Wayfinder Project coordinator, Wayfinder core team

Linn, who currently works at Stockholm Environment Institute, was a research assistant and project coordinator for the Wayfinder project during 2016-2018. She is a core member of the Wayfinder writing team. Her primary interests lie in participatory approaches to research and development, and transformations to sustainability. Linn holds a BA degree in political science and a MSc degree in sustainability science from Stockholm Resilience Centre.
